China Camp Campground Survey - 02-17-2018 - by Stephanie

Camp Description:Site says that site 6-10 are only closed during inclement weather.  It was dry as a bone and closed.  Only sites 1-5 available. Also site says no fee campsite - was actually $20 per night, managed by an external contractor.  We ended up leaving because the only site available was a site next to campers doing shots at 4pm with their radio blaring.  The only other good sites were not really available because another camper had their truck parked right in the middle of all 3 sites.  We left and went to White Oaks, which was much nicer.

Water Source Details:Kinda Dry in quite a few areas down the hill. But some aera looked very promising for pigs. I also had the chance to meet with some of the property owners up there, really nice people. I would definitely visit again.
Weather Conditions:The Weather was comfortable, not bad at all.
China Camp Campground Survey - 12-31-2015 - by GRITS in NYC

Camp Description:Attempted to drive to China Camp on NYE to hike to Pine Valley. Had a 2WD SUV and had to turn around about 2 1/2 miles from the camp. Got to White Oak no problem, but the road quickly turned to snow/ice and the car got stuck on an incline. Slid down the road, and had to turn around and go back down. Easily could have parked at White Oak -- that lot was clear -- but opted to just drive to Los Padres for some hiking instead. Lots of snow/ice after White Oak...

The conditions of the road were totally fine up until that point...not rutted or even all that muddy. A more skilled driver/4WD probably would have been fine.
Water Source:Dry
Water Source Details:No Water at China Camp
Weather Conditions:Cold/Sunny - ~40 degrees
