Description:
Big Pine is located at the eastern pinnacle of the San Rafael Mountains and is the tallest point in Santa Barbara County. It is also the highest point in the Dick Smith Wilderness. While the summit is more flat and rounded than most peaks, there are still great views in all directions. It's a great accomplishment to summit Big Pine, congratulations if you've been here.

I did find the cairns marking the old trail up the ridge but that route involves rock-hopping and a few whitehorn plunges. Took the new route down. Would have been mighty nice up here this night. Takes a bit of walking about to see all the sights since they sort of hide behind the edges. Difficult to decide where the high point is, but I did find the register. Could see Santa Cruz today.
