Description:

Rollins Camp is located along the Don Victor - Loma Pelona Fire Rd just below the Dick Smith Wilderness boundary.  Named after the dozer operator who helped build the road, Rollins has year round water, two tables, an old horse paddock, some tools and a well established fire ring.  Rollins is most commonly accessed by mtn bikers who follow the road across the forest from Potrero Seco, to Don Victor, through Rollins and eventually out to P-Bar Campground.  Rollins is also a stop along the Alamar Trail for those hearty backpackers who brave the Dick Smith Wilderness and the Mono Alamar Trail.

Rollins Camp Survey - 07-13-2019 - by LPFA
Link: Rollins Camp
Date: 07-13-2019
Surveyor Name:LPFA
Camp Description:Camp is in excellent condition with a clean pit toilet and good level spots for a tent. We did not see any deer or bear or rattlesnakes during our stay. Loma Pelona Victor Road was in good condition with some areas of over-growth which we trimmed back, but passable in all areas. Hiking trail was clearly marked beyond the camp (heading back towards Santa Barbara) with minimal poison oak along the trail itself. Flowing water with some wading pools, water temp 67*. During our July visit there was a heat waver. Highs 92, overnight lows 55. Plenty of shade at camp under the oak trees. Entered at Potrero Seco/Hwy 33 on opening day of Bow Hunting season. Stopped and chatted at parking lot and along road with many hunters. All were very friendly and excited to learn the road was being maintained down into Don Victor Valley.

Water Source Details:Clear and 2-3ft deep in some spots

Rollins Camp Survey - 04-09-2019 - by Los Padres Forest Association
Link: Rollins Camp
Date: 04-09-2019
Surveyor Name:Los Padres Forest Association
Camp Description:LPFA is hosting a three week trail project based at Rollins in April 2019.  The trail crew will be working up-canyon to a point in between Dutch Oven and Bill Faris and then down-canyon to the Mono Narrows and up to the bottom of Loma Pelona.  We'll share trail conditions after the work is complete.

Rollins is in good shape with two tables, a toilet, a BBW grate and enough space around for a dozen tents or so.  The camp doesn't see much use but has great water right now, green grass and soon to be good trails in and out of Rollins.
Water Source:Flowing
Water Source Details:Great water flowing throughout the canyon
Weather Conditions:Perfectamundo - light wind, little rain, warm sun

Rollins Camp Survey - 11-19-2018 - by Los Padres Forest Association
Link: Rollins Camp
Date: 11-19-2018
Surveyor Name:Los Padres Forest Association
Camp Description:Rollins was in good shape, clean and looking as if it hadn't been used in a while.  Interestingly, there was a bike locked to the trail sign heading upstream on Alamar Canyon.  The bear had been chewing on the bike seat.

There was no water at all in the creek but there is a reliable seep located across Alamar Creek from Rollins and a short ways up a drainage.  We took a t-post and jammed it into the seep so that the water flowed down the t-post and into our water bottles.

We dug a new hole for the toilet as well.
Water Source:Stagnant

Link: Rollins Camp
Date: 02-29-2016
Surveyor Name:Los Padres Forest Association
Camp Description:Rollins my friend, you are looking great!  Your green grass perfectly highlighted the Padre Brown freshly painted tables.  Your pit toilet was in one piece with hardly a bear scratch.  No trash, lots of flat space to camp and enough water in your creek.  The only issue is the few dead limbs hanging precariously off your oaks near camp.  You really should do something about that, hopefully when no one else is around.  Great to see you again and l'm ready looking forward to seeing you next time.
