Description:

Hartman Camp is located along the Sespe River Trail about 9.5 miles downstream from Piedra Blanca Trailhead. This site has long been in use, first as a USFS Guard Station in the 1920s and later as a car campground in the 60s and 70s. Now what remains is a pleasant stand of mature live oaks in a large grassy flat on the bank above Sespe Creek.

Camp Description:Hartman Camp was easy to find (the trail runs right through it). It sat approximately 100 yards from the now-stagnant pools which make up the Sespe. We were too late in the year for good swimming, unfortunately, but I was glad to have water to filter. I highly recommend loading up on water from Kerr Spring (cold water with a decent taste), which crosses the trail a few miles to the west.
Water Source:Stagnant
Water Source Details:stagnant pools approximately 12" deep
Weather Conditions:sunny, hot, and a little windy
