Friis Campground Survey - 04-24-2022 - by Chardonnay
Link: Friis Campground
Date: 04-24-2022
Surveyor Name:Chardonnay
Camp Description:Nice secluded campground in the oaks. As the NF page says, it's fairly remote compared to the surrounding camping options such as Navajo or Turkey Flat. The road leading to the camp is somewhat rutted and rocky in a few spots but definitely still accessible at this point for 2WD vehicles that have decent clearance. Camp is about a 15-30 minute drive from the junction with Black Mountain road, depending on how fast you drive.
Vehicles are only allowed in a parking area, from which you can carry your camping gear a few yards to one of the sites. There are 3 active sites, 2 of which have fire pits. A 4th site could be made by clearing out away grass around a 3rd fire pit that appears to not get much use.
Expect to bring in all of your water. There are no pit toilets, unlike what is stated on the NF website.
Water Source:Dry
Water Source Details:Creek running on the edge of the campground is mostly dry, other than a few stagnant pools from recent rain
Weather Conditions:Clear skies, slight breeze, about 65/70 F during the day
