Deal Junction Camp Survey - 07-06-2019 - by Christopher P. Lord

Date: 07-06-2019
Surveyor Name:Christopher P. Lord
Camp Description:Surveyed the Camp Saturday 07/06/2019. Deal junction  has a rock fire ring and steel grated stove. The site has become quite brushy however the adjacent tent pad is still mostly clear and will accommodate a couple tents. The Camp suffers from a lack of trees however the western edge (sloped section) provides a nice shady spot to escape and lounge or half some lunch. Water is still flowing from Rancho Nuevo Creek and Deal Creek.

Deal Junction Camp Survey - 04-20-2019 - by James Wapotich
Link: Deal Junction Camp
Date: 04-20-2019
Surveyor Name:James Wapotich
Camp Description:
Made a loop hike from 33, visiting Mine Camp; camping at Deal Junction and visiting Upper Rancho Nuevo; and coming out across the Cuyama River. Great wildflowers along the trail.

Both Deal Creek and Rancho Nuevo Creek are flowing. Great water in both!

The trail is in good shape all the way from 33 to the "narrows" and then somewhat overgrown, but still easy to follow.

Mine Camp: the creek is currently flowing there as well, although the picnic table has seen better days.

Camp Description:The intrepid mountain men of Troop 111 descended on Deal Junction camp the night before the MPRD's annual Super Bowl Sunday service project (this time along Deal Canyon Trail).

Camp's in fine shape, though the brush is encroaching from the north and many of the old manzanitas just above the kitchen have died and fallen in the past few years.

Deal Junction Camp Survey - 04-25-2017 - by C Day
Link: Deal Junction Camp
Date: 04-25-2017
Surveyor Name:C Day
Camp Description:Most of the trail is in decent shape.  There were a couple of trees down across the trail.  On the near approach to the camp, erosion from this year's rains has damaged the trail, making it difficult to follow.  Just keep on going, crossing the water wherever it seems easiest and you will come to the camp. The camp was clean and had not been used lately.

There was a great variety of wildflowers along the way.  We encountered a large rattlesnake while crossing the floodplain of the Cuyama river.
Water Source:Flowing
Water Source Details:got our shoes a little wet crossing
Weather Conditions:pleasantly warm, some high clouds

Deal Junction Camp Survey - 03-27-2016 - by Geoff
Link: Deal Junction Camp
Date: 03-27-2016
Surveyor Name:Geoff
Camp Description:

I did not stay here. Just passed through. This is a nice small site with a fire grate. I looked around but did not see any flat areas for a tent. The open areas primarily appeared to be gently sloping towards the creek. It may be that I missed the best tent site(s).

When I hiked down Deal Canyon on 03-16-2016, the creek in Deal Canyon and Rancho Nuevo Creek were flowing. When I passed this camp on 03-27-2016, there were only stagnant water pools in Rancho Nuevo Creek.
