Willett Hot Springs Survey - 02-19-2022 - by Richard Goedeken
Link: Willett Hot Springs
Date: 02-19-2022
Surveyor Name:Richard Goedeken
Camp Description:People were camping at various sites on the valley floor all over the eastern half of this trail. We stayed at the exposed campsite just past the turnoff to go up to the hot springs.  The trail up to the hot springs is steep and very narrow in one place due to damage from a landslide. The hot tub was full of water and very warm. It was quite a busy place, with people going up and down this trail all through the day and even at night. There is a small campsite with room for one tent just below the hot springs.
Water Source:Flowing
Water Source Details:Water was flowing in Sespe creek at all of the trail crossings. All of the creek crossings could be traversed by hopping from stone to stone, except the wide crossing at Bear Creek camp.
Weather Conditions:High temperatures in the uppers 60s / lower 70s. Low temperature near 30. Sun was very intense during the day; sunscreen is necessary.

Willett Hot Springs Survey - 10-30-2021 - by Marcus I
Link: Willett Hot Springs
Date: 10-30-2021
Surveyor Name:Marcus I
Camp Description:
Trail was still HOT mid-day but cooled off nicely in the late afternoon. Recommend a solar umbrella or sun protection even in the off season.
Sespe is dry the whole way except for the deep, stagnant pool at Bear Creek 4.5miles from the Piedra trailhead. I would not recommend drinking this water as it tastes bad (sulfuric), but is technically safe to drink (filtered of course!) as I was fine. I drank 3L on the way in (sunny, mid-day hike) and 1.75L on the way out (partially cloudy, later afternoon). No water ran off from the early October rain storm so creeks are still dry. Only springs are flowing.
Willett Hot Spring was perfect temp (~103) and clear. Only 3 groups camped out, not very busy.
Leaves were beautiful, about 50% peak color.
Water Source:Flowing
Water Source Details:Water at the base of Willett is flowing and good tasting (stream in the trees near the now-dry sespe river bed). Only other water is a stagnant pool at Bear Creek, 4.5mi from PB. BC water tastes bad, even after carbon filter. Recommend carrying enough water to get you in from the car.
Weather Conditions:Dry, sunny and partial cloudy. low 80's days, high 40's nights.
