Description:

Saddle Skirt is an old and seldom visited camp along the Agua Blanca in the Sespe Wilderness.  Some of the maps have the wrong location of the camp.  There are a few icecan stoves at the camp and its set in a small potrero surrounded by oaks and sycamore trees.

Camp Description:Passed through Saddle Skirt on my way further up 19W10 toward Borracho and beyond. The Rei gift card I left back in June of 2019 is still there. I guess nobody likes free money & abandoned trails. Great water flow in the Agua Blanca right now. If your looking for something more on the wild side Saddle Skirt should fit the bill. Saddle Skirt Camp Survey - 06-22-2019 - by Christopher P. Lord
Link: Saddle Skirt Camp
Date: 06-22-2019
Surveyor Name:Christopher P. Lord
Camp Description:Hiked in from Dough Flat on Saturday to Saddle Skirt. The Camp still has 2 large intact Ice Can stoves. Almost missed the second one though as I had to dig it out from under a pile of debris. The grassy flat is overgrown but large enough for multiple tents. Hike Los Padres has the coordinates wrong the camp is further up the drainage and located here N34° 35' 18.5" W118° 53' 13.2" on the west side of Agua Blanca Creek where an unnamed drainage from the west comes in. Current water at camp is flowing nicely. The old trail from Ant is a mess and hard to follow. Massive amounts of unavoidable poison oak.Took us almost 2 hours to travel the 1.5 miles from Ant. Once we figured out the best route though we were able to cut that time almost in half upon exit. If you attempt this know the old trail and what side of the creek you should be on or the going will be extremely slow and frustrating. The overgrowth is doing a good job of hiding the old trail but the tread can still be found in many places. Plan on a healthy dose of Bushwhacking. This is not an easy day hike 14.6 was our total mileage in and out. I left a little surprise for the next person who passes through, if your interested in hearing more about it check out the link below to my blog.
