Pine Springs Campground Survey - 09-04-2023 - by Nate K

Date: 09-04-2023
Surveyor Name:Nate K
Camp Description:Camp was in great shape, new fire rings, lots of brush cleared. Unfortunately some Labor Day campers managed to not put out their fire completely. I stopped in just to have a sandwich late Monday afternoon to a lot of smoke and a healthy fire going at the back campsite. I only had a gallon of water to drown it and it barely even put a dent in. Covered it with dirt and cursed whoever left it like that.

Camp Description:The intrepid mountain men of Troop 111 (Ventura) backpacked the closed road into Pine Springs this past weekend for a quick overnighter. Exited via Piano Box Loop for some additional mileage. Camp is in fine shape, empty but for our crew. Some water in the lower marsh, and 20–25 gallons in the trough just below camp entrance; froze over at night. Latrines sporting nice new KEEP OUT signs.
Water Source:Trickle
Water Source Details:Marsh just below spring very low; rain water in trough.
Weather Conditions:Cold and clear
