Chuchupate Campground Survey - 06-09-2019 - by Duane Waite
Link: Chuchupate Campground
Date: 06-09-2019
Surveyor Name:Duane Waite
Camp Description:A cozy alternative to the higher campgrounds on Mt. Pinos, and a bit closer to town if you want more proximity to food, ice and other accoutrements of civilization. However, the camp still feels remote, and being a bit lower, there is more biodiversity, so your chance of hearing owls and coyotes is higher. My night's owl serenade was halted by heavy winds that blew through after midnight, a reminder that mountains can create their own weather.
I also noticed a cluster of amateur astronomers,  their equipment set up at the Frazier Mtn trailhead about a mile below the campground. A cold weather alternative to the chiller Mt Pinos summit on long winter nights.
Water Source:Dry
Water Source Details:$20 per night. Bring your own water. No longer piped.
Weather Conditions:Night: Breezy with temps in the low 50s.
