Description:

Toad Springs is a developed campground near Pine Mountain Club in the Mt. Pinos Ranger District.  The camp is easily accessed and near the Quatal Canyon OHV routes. The camp is located on Quatal Canyon Road southwest 1/2 mile from Sierra Noroeste Road. There are a number of exotic trees planted at the camp site with Pinyon Pine trees and numerous specimens of Great Basin sage shrubs.
There are 6 tables, 2 Klamath stoves, 3 metal fire rings, pit toilets, sign and bulletin board. No water is available at the camp site but the spring is located 2/10 of a mile down the dry wash at the camp.
Down Quatal Canyon Road 9N04 is a area of steeply eroded cliffs of sandstone and shale of various colors which has been designated as a Geological Reserve by the Forest Service.

Toad Springs Campground Survey - 02-20-2021 - by Oh Three

Surveyor Name:Oh Three
Camp Description:I remember a much larger stretch of campsites when I camped here 25 years ago. In fact, it looks like this place has shrunk in the 5 years since the 2016 review. The three campsites that do have a picnic table & firepit are so close together with no bushes or anything separating them that you could spit watermelon seeds from one table to the next. Such close adjacency does not promote a good wilderness experience. Having lived in crowded Manhattan several years, I have no desire to spend one more evening unavoidably listening to the personal conversations of my neighbors. There were two cars already parked here so I left to find another campground.
