Description:
Prewitt Ridge Camground is located along a ridge high above the southern Big Sur coastline yet only a short distance from the ocean as the crow flies. As a result it has some of the better views of the coastline and mountains in the area. The camp itself is located off of Nacimiento-Ferguson Rd out along the dirt South Coast Ridge Rd and then heading west along Prewitt Ridge Rd. The roads are dusty and borderline 4WD, but assuming the roads are dry you should be able to get a high-clearance vehicle to the camp. It is dispersed camping once you get to the campground and there are quite a few camp areas to choose from once at Prewitt, all with grand views and some with shade.
PLEASE NOTE that there is no trash collection and currently no toilets at Prewitt Ridge Campground. PLEASE PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT and dispose of your waste properly. The campground is known to be overrun with toilet paper, please do your part and leave the camp in better than you found it.

Link: Prewitt Ridge Campground Date: 12-15-2018 Surveyor Name: colleen wilson Camp Description: Hi -ÂWe are locals who live on Prewitt Ridge & Alm's Ridge in Big Sur, Ca. An amazing place for hang gliders, campers & hikers. Our unsurpassed views & beauty has had an explosion of guests that like to enjoy the beauty of our National forest. Unfortunately, the road is suffering terribly with all the traffic on it.  The Forestry has no budget for the road. However Fort Hunter Liggitt has actually stepped up & are currently cleaning out water bars & grading the road. We desperately need rock & rock base but have no funds. We want everyone to enjoy the scenic beauty we have to offer. We have started a Go Fund Me campaign to help restore & maintain the road.  We are asking group, clubs & organizations to help contribute, share on FB, Instagram,Twitter & other friends and family who love our natural forest & who would like to help keep this area accessible for all of us.  Please consider helping us. Â There was a bunch of trash and toilet paper left around the camp that was a distraction but still a great place to get above the fog and take in the views of the mountains and coastline.
