Description:

Miranda Pine Camp is set atop Miranda Pine Mountain (imagine that?) along the far western flank of the Sierra Madre Mountains.  The camp has incredible views up-canyon along the Cuyama Valley and across-canyon to the Caliente Range and the Carrizo Plain beyond.  It has a few sites, fire pits, a toilet with a million dollar view, a wall kiosk and some tables.  The camp can get windy, prepare accordingly or come with a Plan B.  Access to Miranda Pines is most common from Hwy 166 up the Sierra Madre Rd.

Camp Description:Spent sat night 9/2 up here. Chilly and foggy. Condensing fog on trees meant campsites were drippy. Fog next morning until c noon, then awesome views. Windy in late afternoon. One other party who reported there had been lots of other people on the ridge 2 weeks prior. Campsites in good condition.

Camp Description:Campsite is in good shape.  Sierra Madre Rd has been graded recently, only the last mile (past the turnoff to the communication towers) needed relatively high clearance, no 4WD needed.  The Santa Maria 4-Wheelers Club brought TP for the toilet while we were there.  Weather was pleasant and the sky was super dark at night.  Only issue was tons of flies and earwigs at some times of day.  Who knew that earwigs could fly?  We spent 3 days and saw 6-7 groups of people come through, campground was full most of the time.  Tons of flowers still in bloom from heavy rains this year.

Miranda Pine Campground Survey - 06-18-2018 - by Nate
Link: Miranda Pine Campground
Date: 06-18-2018
Surveyor Name:Nate
Camp Description:The Sierra Madre road is pretty rough in spots. There is no need for four wheel drive, but you will need more clearance than a car usually has. The campground itself is in pretty good shape for being off the beaten path. The outhouse was pretty clean and there was even some tp. The views were pretty good, but I imagine that it is better in early Spring when the grass is green. here were three camp spots with tables and fire pits. I could not locate the spring, so bring your own water. The dirt was wet around the trees, so there is water somewhere around there, but I was just driving up the Sierra Madre road to explore.
