Mc Donald Peak Survey - 06-15-2019 - by Oh Three
Link: Mc Donald Peak
Date: 06-15-2019
Surveyor Name:Oh Three
Camp Description:A pleasant walk-up from the east side. Phenomenal views. Other than Alamo, which you just drove by, McDonald is one of the highest peaks in the area. Having said that, the entry before me in the register was a dad with his two 4-year old kids, Wow!

I drove past McDonald on the spur road from the Alamo loop road to the Upper Buck Creek Trailhead. When you can first see over the ridge to the south, there's 2 low horizontal log beams (photo), like for parking, which I did, then walked up the crest of the ridge to the west, then south to the summit. No need for a map! It's all visible the entire time.

There's an old school 1942 bench mark (photo), when is back when we were first mapping these hills in preparation for the invasion, which never came, but we did get our local forests mapped!

Peak bagging McDonald is a fun 1-hour adventure to add to a more serious trip in this area, like hiking to Snowy/Black or White/Cobblestone mountains.

Water Source:Dry
Water Source Details:Nearest water in north side of Alamo, see my "Big Springs" review.
