Description:

This trail camp located above Spruce Creek Camp up the Salmon Creek Trail (6E11) in the Silver Peak Wilderness. The main camp is situated beside a creek in an open flat shaded by massive oak, bay laurel, and sycamore trees. There is a picnic table, fire ring, pit toilet, and ample room for tents. Another camp, complete with picnic table and fire ring, is on the bluff just before the trail drops into the main camp. Numerous other overflow sites can be found in the clearings surrounding this upper camp.

NO campfires allowed since August 1, 2023 we are in fire restrictions still.

Wilderness toilet in main camp, up a middle path, which has a "toilet" sign. Pack out ALL toilet paper, food scraps, and trash. Don't use the fire pit as a trash can. You are supposed to leave no trace.

AKA "No Garbage Service. Pack it in, pack it out."

Camp Description:Plenty of water from the storms this winter. Crossing is easy on a series of rocks, or you can bring water shoes if you want to hike in the river. Salmon Creek Falls is running very strongly and has a nice pool (about 5' deep) for swimming. Lots of little swimming holes along the creek as well.

Camp Description:C'mon people, bury your toilet paper!  Not TOO bad, but still in various areas around the camp.  Ya know, there IS a (mostly clean) vault toilet for such a thing.

Flies are bothersome, but not terrible if you're willing to shoo them away with a bandana, etc.

Abundant frogs (which come out just after dusk) are a nice addition that helps you sleep. Morning alarm comes via vocal blue jays.
Water Source:Flowing
Water Source Details:Low flow at camp (still active flow with no stagnation), with PLENTY of water at Spruce Camp half-way up the trail.
Weather Conditions:Very pleasant, but jacket would be necessary for most as the sun starts to set.

Camp Description:Went up to Estrella Camp with plans to stay overnight for two nights, ended up going back to Spruce Camp due to lack of water.

There was water at Estrella, but we were hoping for the waterfall and an abundance (which Spruce had). Filtered water for a refill there and found it fairly murky and very low. Hiked up creek a ways to see if it increased, but it didn't.

Camps looked in good condition, no tables but plenty of benches, fire pits, etc.
Water Source:Flowing
Water Source Details:Flowing slowly, very low, no waterfall.
